2.2. Neurolaena ser. Radiatae Turner (1982: 121–122 , as “ Radiata ”).
Type species:— Neurolaena cobanensis Greenman ex Smith (1904: 418–419) ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
Diagnosis: —Radiate capitula and commonly shorter reproductive structures such as involucre 4.8–7 mm long, paleae 3.3–5.45 mm long, disc floret corolla 4.55–6.45 mm long, and pappus bristles 1.2–5.2 mm long.
Turner (1982) proposed this series with two subordinated species: N. cobanensis Greenman ex Smith (1904: 418–419) and N. oaxacana Turner (1977: 251) . Based on the ratio palea to disc floret corolla and radiate capitula of N. serboana Turner (2014: 15) and the new species ( N. curtipalea ), we consider these two as belonging to N. series Radiatae .
Geographic distribution: — Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Mexico, in Chiapas and Oaxaca states. We also document here the first occurrence of this series in Colombia based on the occurrence of the new species, N. curtipalea ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
