50. Navicula plicatula Grunow ( Figs 99, 100 View FIGURES 91–100 )
Type locality: Gulf of Naples ; Balearic Islands ; Madagascar; Seychelles; Japan.
Reference: Lobban et al. 2012. p. 293, pl. 48, figs 1–3.
Morphometrics: Valves 66–81 (49–64) μm long, 24–26 (15–18) μm wide, and transapical striae 18 (15–24) in 10 μm.
Remarks: Navicula plicatula contains not only sinuous raphe, but also raised raphe fissures, and is distinguished from others. This taxon was reported from Balearic Island and Naples in the Mediteranean (Peragallo & Peragallo 1897–1908), Philippines ( Mann 1925), Guam and Society Islands of the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea ( Lobban et al. 2012), and is also indicated on the check-list of Chinese marine diatoms ( Liu 2008). It was encountered rarely along the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, and represents a new record for South Korea.
