Synonym: Navicula circumvallata (Cleve) Schmidt.

Type locality: Balearic Island ; Ceylon ; Labuan; Japan.
Morphometrics: Valves 28–38 (27–52) μm long, 13–14 (10–13) μm wide, transapical striae 10–11 (9–12) in 10 μm.
Remarks: This taxon has been reported from a few localitions: Saldanha Bay lagoon of South Africa ( Giffen 1976), Palawan of Philippines ( Podzorski & Håkansson 1987) , and the mangrove coast of the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico ( Siqueiros-Beltrones et al. 2011). It has been reported rarely, but can be assigned to a typical tropical taxon based on the earliest type locality and subsequent discovery areas. It was found rarely in rock pools along the Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island, and is herein newly reported in South Korea
