References: Hustedt 1961–66, p. 516, fig. 1558; Hendey, 1964, p. 210, pl. 33, fig.12 (as Navicula abrupta (W.Gregory) Donkin 1870: 13 ); Witkowski et al., 2000, p. 229, pl. 95, figs 4, 5; pl. 99, fig. 8.
Features: Length 40–56 μm, width 16–20 μm, striae 14–17 in 10 μm.
Description: Valves elliptical with broadly rounded apices and straight raphe fissures. Narrow lanceolate lateral hyaline areas slightly expanded, becoming narrower near central pores and terminal fissures.
Remarks: Observed specimens were with slightly higher striae density than originally described.
Ecology and Distribution: A widely distributed marine species. Previously known from the Gulf ( Hendey 1970, Al-Yamani & Saburova 2011, Al-Handal 2009). Frequent in Basra corals.
