DIAGNOSIS. This species is closest to M. coptopheles , sp. n., but can be separated from it by the all black frons (yellow in M. coptopheles ) and closed cell dm ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16 – 23 ) (this cell open in M. coptopheles ).

DESCRIPTION. Female. Length: 1.02 mm. Head. Black; eyes dichoptic, separated at vertex by 1.5 x distance between lateral ocelli; frons black, depressed medially; face brown, tip of oral margin black; antennae black; scape minute; [remainder of both antennae broken off and missing]; occiput and mentum black; proboscis brown, thin, length about one­half head height; palpus not evident.

Thorax. Mesonotum and scutellum subshining black, with scattered dark hairs; humeral callus and thin ridge along postalar callus yellow; pleura dark brown; coxae dark brown, femora brown, yellow apically; tibiae and tarsi yellowish; halteres broken off and missing.

Wing ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16 – 23 ). Hyaline; veins brown; costa ends slightly less than one­third between end of R4+5 and M1; vein Sc incomplete, ending at level about halfway between origin of Rs and end of vein R2+3; Rs connected to R1; R4+5 slightly arched to wing margin; vein M1 curved toward wing margin; M2 straight to wing margin; crossvein dm­cu closing cell dm present; CuA1 well sclerotized to wing margin; A1 straight to wing margin, not curved or sinuous; fringe of hair on posterior margin of wing normal in length.

Abdomen. Dorsum dark brown, with scattered dark hairs; yellow posterior fasciae on tergites IV–VII; venter brown.

Genitalia. Not dissected

Male. Unknown

Types. Holotype female (unique) from ISRAEL: Heron, 11.vi.1974, F. Nachbar. Holotype deposited in TAU.

Etymology. The specific epithet honors Amnon Freidberg, Tel Aviv University, for his many contributions to Middle East dipterology and his excellent collections of microbombyliids from around the world.

Distribution. Known only from Israel.
