5.2.5. Myrcia forsteri (O.Berg) Molino & G.P.Burton View in CoL (in Burton et al. 2022: 108). Calyptranthes forsteri O. Berg (1855 –1856: 23). Myrcia neoforsteri A.R.Lourenço & E.Lucas (in Lourenço et al. 2018: 75), nom. illeg. Type:— SAINT LUCIA. Lesser Antilles, unknown date, Forster s.n. (lectotype MEL1540478!, designated here; isolectotype M0171079!).
Myrcia forsteri resembles M. celaenensis and M. florifera , both considered Myrcia sect. Aulomyrcia (the latter supported by phylogenetic analysis; Wilson et al. 2016). As in the case of Myrcia celaenensis , absence of sympodial branching, inflorescence structure (non sympodial branching at the base and presence of subopposite branching), floral bud morphology (obovoid) and an irregularly tearing calyptra, indicate a calyptrate species of M. sect. Aulomyrcia .
Type specimens at M and MEL have Berg’s handwriting and both were probably seen by the species author. We choose the MEL specimen as the lectotype because it is more representative of the species morphology.
