Etymology. LATIN ‘ reticulatus ’, NETLIKE, ALLUDINg TO THE CALCIFIED RETICULATE SCULPTURINg OF THE COLONY SURFACE.
Material examined. HΟlΟtype: CRBA-58249, STN PAT 1108DR02, C. 10 MM LONg, 8 MM WIDE. Paratype: CRBA-58250, STN PAT 1208DR14, C. 20 MM LONg, 10 MM WIDE.
Description. COLONY ENCRUSTINg; MAXIMUM ACHIEVAbLE SIZE NOT KNOWN. AUTOZOOIDS LARgE. FRONTAL SHIELD CONVEX, EVENLY PERFORATED. ORIFICE WITH A MEDIAN SHORT AND bROAD LYRULA AND A PAIR OF ACUTE CONDYLES; AVICULARIA OFTEN PRESENT. A PAIR OF ORAL SPINE bASES SITUATED DISTOLATERALLY. OVICELL PROMINENT, gLObULAR, LONgER THAN WIDE, DENSELY PERFORATED. SUbORAL MUCRO SMOOTH, bIFURCATINg AND FORMINg A VARIAbLE RETICULATED NET OF TUbULAR KENOZOOIDS; FROM THE PROXIMAL SIDE OF THIS TUbULAR COMPLEX OCCASIONALLY SHORT PROjECTIONS ARISE, EACH WITH A SMALL OVAL AVICULARIUM APICALLY; ALL AVICULARIA HAVE COMPLETE PIVOTAL bARS.
Remarks. MucrΟpetraliella reticulata n. sp. IS UNIqUE IN THE gENUS IN HAVINg AN ELEVATED NETWORK OF CALCIFICATION PROCEEDINg FROM THE SUbORAL MUCRO OF ADjACENT ZOOIDS. THE gENUS IS THE FIRST RECORD OF THE FAMILY IN THE PATAgONIAN REgION. THE FAMILY NAME PETRALIIDAE IS USED INSTEAD OF PETRALIELLIDAE , FOLLOWINg COOK et al. (IN PRESS).
