13. Monnina richardiana Saint-Hilaire & Moquin-Tandon (1828: 57) . Lectotype (designated here): BRAZIL. Minas Gerais, Between Campo Alegre and Paracatu, May 1819, A.Saint-Hilaire Cat. C1 552 (P 506954! p.p., the lectotype means the two specimens labeled as "552", the another specimen on sheet, not labeled, has morphological features of A.Saint-Hilaire 947, i.e., the type material of Monnina richardiana var. [β] angustior Saint-Hilaire (1829: 66).

Polygala glandulosa Vellozo (1829: 290) , nom. illeg non P. glandulosa Kunth (1821: 404) , syn. nov. Lectotype (designated here): — BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro: "Habitat campis apricis mediterraneis" (Vellozo 1829), November 1783 –1790. Iconograph: Vellozo (1831: tab. 70).

Taxonomic notes:— Although Bennett (1874) and Marques (1989) placed Polygala glandulosa Vell. under synonymy with Monnina resedoides Saint-Hilaire & Moquin-Tandon (1828: 57) , it seems to be very unlikely, since M. resedoides is restricted to Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. Furthermore, M. resedoides has no extra-floral glands at the leaf base. Judging by the original plate and description, P. glandulosa matches perfectly M. richardiana . In Rio de Janeiro, M. richardiana is known only from Serra de Itatiaia, at the border of Rio de Janeiro with Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
