Diagnosis. The new subspecies differs externally from M. dubiosa dubiosa in its somewhat larger size, darker colouration of forewings, less contrast pattern and poorly defined streaks of the marginal line.
Description. External morphology ( Figs 46–48 View FIGURES 41 – 50 ). Wingspan 40–47 mm. Head, thorax and abdomen dark brown. Forewing moderately broad. Ground colour of forewing dark brown. Crosslines thin, double. Submarginal line pale, thin, strongly dentate. Marginal line present as a series of lengthwise blackish brown streaks between the veins. Basal dash short, thin, black. Claviform dark brown, with thin black border; medial fascia thin, black. Medial area shadowed posteriorly of claviform and medial fascia. Terminal area dark brown. Subterminal area paler, brown, inwards from the submarginal line with blackish cuneate streaks between the veins. Cilia dark brown. Hindwing pale greyish brown, discal spot diffuse, semilunar. Cilia brownish grey. Male genitalia ( Figs 83, 84 View FIGURES 81 – 86 ): differ from M. dubiosa dubiosa in the somewhat broader juxta, somewhat longer and apically pointed protruding part of clavus, smaller teeth on the apex of carina and longer eversible dorso-lateral bar of carina. Female genitalia ( Fig. 119 View FIGURES 113 – 120 ): differ from M. dubiosa dubiosa in the more curved ductus bursae.
Distribution. Himalayan-Tibetan. West China (Tibetan plateau and Tsinling Mts) and Bhutan (North East Himalaya).
Etymology. Amitayus is the Buddha of Infinite Life in Tibetan Buddism.
