5.3.1. Myrcia mesoamericana (P.E.Sánchez) View in CoL A.R.Lourenço&Sánchez-Chávez (in Lourenço et al.2018:78). Marlierea mesoamericana P.E.Sánchez (1991: 117) . Type:— COSTA RICA. Heredia, Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo, 9 July 1989, Sánchez Vindas 1305 (holotype CR!; isotypes BM!, CICY030984!, F2131954!, INB0001564178!, K000330400!, MEXU00656281!, MEXU00656282!, MO-187158!, NY01582725!, US01957351!, WISv0255095 WIS!) .

Myrcia mesoamericana has distinct leaf morphology with strongly raised veins in the abaxial surface and no clearly typical sympodial branching. The calyx lobes are totally fused but open as an imperfect calyptra during anthesis. The inflorescence has sympodial branching at the base, typical of Myrcia sect. Calyptranthes . Phylogenetic analysis is desirable for more accurate placement of Myrcia mesoamericana inside Myrcia .
