Terrestrial trees. Distribution in PILA 700–1200 m, low elevation mixed forest, mixed forest in transition to low elevation forest. Global distribution: Costa Rica, Panama. Records: B. Hammel 17608 ( MO), Herrera 3275 ( INB) .

This species is being described as Marila jefensis by Barry Hammel (Pers. Comm.). This species will be included in the Manual de Plantas de Costa Rica.
