Type (lectotype, designated here):— PERU. “Peruvia subandin”, January 1829 -1830, Poeppig 1682 ( G00302578 ; isolectotypes: LE00001344 , LE00001345 , B [†], W [†]). ( Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 ). Remaining syntype:— PERU. “Ad Chicoplaya”, 1798, Pavón 26 (s.n. on protologue) ( G00168735 , MA810689 , B [†]) .
Protologue citation:—Peruvia: Ad Chicoplaya anno 1798 leg. Pavon (Herb. Berolin.). In Peruvia subandina Versurae leg. Poeppig n. 1682 (Herb. Berolin., Vindob., Hort. et Acad. Petrop. Turczaninow).
Notes: — Körnicke (1862) cited the gatherings Pavón ( B) and Poeppig 1682 ( B, KW, W). Three sheets were assigned as Poeppig 1682, and some were identified as “ Maranta dichotoma Poepp. ” This name appeared only in the herbarium, but it was listed in the protologue of M. ruiziana (see “ Maranta dichotoma Poeppig in mss. Herb nec A. Dietr”). Two specimens and a negative of Macbride’s Collection (Photo Negative no. F 9846) were identified as Pavón. We herein designate specimen G 00302578 (Poeppig 1682) as lectotype, because it has more abundant flowers.
