Maranta bracteosa Petersen (1890: 333) View in CoL
Type (lectotype, designated here):— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais, “in silvis ad Lagoa Santa”, no date, Warming 503 (s.n. on protologue) ( C10014449 ; isolectotypes: C10014450 , C10014451 , B [†]). ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Protologue citation:—“In silvis ad Lagoa Santa: Warming.”
Notes:— Maranta bracteosa was described by Petersen in 1889, at “Symbolae ad floram Brasiliae centralis cognoscendam: Scitaminae”, edited by Warming. Nonetheless, it was effectively published (see Art. 31.1, ICN) only on May 8th 1890 ( Stafleu & Cowan 1983). Petersen (1890) only cited a Warming gathering, without further details. Three specimens were found at C herbarium with labels indicating they were part of Warming’s Herbarium, together with the collector’s handwriting, gathering number and locality. A photo negative made by Macbride (Photo Negative no. F 9838) representing the specimen once placed at B herbarium, which was subsequently destroyed, was also found with fragments and an illustrative analysis. The specimen C 10014449 is designated here as lectotype since it is the most complete extant duplicate.
