Pronotal collar ground color except for piceous mark near anteromedial corner, pronotal collar lateral angle grooved with a reddish tinge, lateral margin angled ventrally with anterior adpressed to pronotum. Pronotum and pronotal collar with sparse, short silvery pile. Mesonotum ground color darker within submedian sigillae, submedian sigillae outlined in piceous, curved piceous fascia extending from medial side of posterior submedian sigillae expanding posteriorly to enclose scutal depression crossing anterior arm of cruciform elevation expanding across posterior mesonotum and anterolateral cruciform elevation, piceous fascia along medial side of lateral sigillae not reaching posterior in holotype, piceous fascia along all but anterolateral lateral sigillae, anterior mark extending to lateral margin, all marks fusing in paratype, irregular mottling of lateral sigillae where muscles attach internally, cruciform elevation with small piceous fascia on posterior midline and piceous posterior, slight reddish tinge in holotype. Dorsal mesonotum with short silvery pile, denser long silvery pile between anterior arms of cruciform elevation, between anterior and posterior arms of cruciform elevation, on posterior mesonotum, and in wing groove. Metanotum piceous with ground color posterior margin, short silvery pile on posterior metanotum. Ventral thoracic segments ochraceous except piceous medial and lateral basisternum 2, medial anepisternum 2, lateral trochantin 2, lateral anepimeron 2, anterior and lateral meron 2, medial trochantin 3, and medial basisternum 3, covered with short silvery pile, radiating sparse, long silvery pile.

Wings

Fore wings and hind wings hyaline, milky when viewed at an angle, with eight and six apical cells respectively. Venation ground color becoming darker distally, except reddish costal margin and radius & subcostal vein to node, piceous at base along anterior basal cell, castaneous arculus extending onto proximal median vein, piceous spot on base, and piceous anal vein 2 + 3. Basal cell about five times longer than broad, infuscated distally. Pterostigma present, extending to radial crossvein. Spot of infuscation in distal clavus. Basal membrane of fore wing light gray tinged with red and piceous posterior margin. Hind wing venation ground color becoming darker distally, anal vein 2 castaneous, anal vein 3 piceous, anal vein 3 strongly curved to wing margin. Basal plaga, anal cell 3 along anal vein 3, anal cell 2 along anal veins 2 and 3, and anal cell 1 along proximal anal vein 2 light gray, gray margined with infuscation in anal cell 3, additional infuscation at base of anal cell 3.

Legs

Legs ground color with reddish tinge, coxae with piceous fasciae surrounding reddish areas anteriorly and laterally, trochanters piceous anterodorsally, castaneous posteriorly, femora striped with castaneous, posterior fore femur dark castaneous, fore tibiae castaneous with darker proximal region and short ground color fascia proximomedially, middle tibiae ochraceous striped with castaneous and castaneous distally, hind tibiae ochraceous, fore and middle leg tarsi piceous, hind tarsi ground color centrally, pretarsal claws castaneous with piceous tips. Measurements (mm).—N = 2 males, mean (range). Length of body: 16.18 (15.90–16.45); length of fore wing: 20.55 (20.30–20.80); width of fore wing: 7.10 (7.00–7.20); length of head: 2.50 (2.405=–2.60); width of head including eyes: 5.23 (5.15–5.30); width of pronotum including suprahumeral plates: 6.25 (6.10–6.40); width of mesonotum: 5.05 (5.00–5.10).

Diagnosis.—This new species is the smallest (body length about 16 mm, wingspan about 57 mm) of the known species of Malagasia . The head and thorax heavily marked with piceous and primarily castaneous abdomen also quickly distinguishes this new species.

Distribution.—The species is only known from the type series collected in Italaviana and Fianarantsoa province, southeastern Madagascar.
