This taxon was described from an unspecified number of specimens collected at «Dunedin, Florida ». Casey’s collection in USNM contains a single specimen under that name, a female herein selected as the lectotype labelled «Dunedin, Fla. W.S.B. Coll. 4- 5-1915 /Casey bequest 1925/Type USNM 47349 About USNM / comptus Csy. [handwritten]/ UAIC 00044050 View Materials / lectotype Loxandrus comptus by [handwritten] R. T. Allen» .

The lectotype (SBL ¼ 8.8 mm; ABL ¼ about 10.0 mm) is conspecific with specimens of L. floridanus LeConte, 1878 [ NEW SYNONYMY]. See comment about L. breviusculus Casey .
