( Figs. 31, 32 View Figs , 77 View Figs )

Geraeus crucifer Champion 1908:273 . Syntypes, 1 labeled ‘‘ Temax,/ N. Yucatan,/ Gaumer,’’ ‘‘ Champion / determined,’’ ‘‘ Geraeus / crucifer/ Ch’ ’ (USNM); other syntypes (BMNH) not examined.

Recognition. Linogeraeus crucifer View in CoL can be recognized by its color pattern ( Fig. 31 View Figs ). Males have tuberculiform prosternal spines and ventrally setose protibiae. The size range is 3.3–4.8 mm.

Distribution. This species has been collected at widely scattered localities in Mexico, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and the United States ( Fig. 77 View Figs ).

Type locality. Yucatan, Mexico .

Material examined. United States: Arizona ( CMNC 2 , CWOB 8 ) , Nebraska ( USNM 1 About USNM ) . Mexico: Chiapas ( CWOB 8 ) , Colima ( TAMU 1 ) , Guerrero ( TAMU 1 ) , Oaxaca ( CWOB 9 ) , Quintana Roo ( CWOB 1 , USNM 1 About USNM ) , Yucatán ( USNM 1 About USNM ) . Nicaragua: Estelí ( CWOB 1 ) , Matagalpa ( CWOB 2 ) . Venezuela: ( TAMU 5 ) . Total 41 specimens.

Temporal occurrence. July to September [8 dates].

Plant associations. Unknown.

Note. Linogeraeus crucifer is newly recorded for the United States. The species has been collected repeatedly in southern Arizona, for the first time in 1958, and

on one occasion in Nebraska (Holt Co.), in 1983. The currently known collecting data do not provide a coherent picture of the natural distribution. The single record from Nebraska almost certainly presents an accidental introduction.
