Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Berg (1949: 549); listed by Coad (1981: 11; 2014: 182; 2015: 228) as possible distributed species.—Afghanistan materials: None.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Amu Darya.—General distribution: Aral Sea system.— Habitat: This species is found near the surface of open waters in large rivers and lakes. Semi-anadromous individuals forage and spawn in pelagic environments. Lacustrine populations spawn in open water in lakes. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Commercially important.
Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: LC (Karimov & Mamilov 2020b).—Threats: No major threats known.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.— Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.
