Basionym:— Hygrolejeunea princeps Steph., Sp. Hepat. 5: 568. 1914 (Stephani 1914). Holotype:— Nepal, Kathmandu , s.d., K. N. Rana s.n. ( G)

= Taxilejeunea himalayensis Herzog, Ann. Bryol. 12: 21. 1939 ( Herzog 1939), syn. nov. Holotype:— India, Darjeeling , 1935-11, G. Kerstan 34 (JE).

Note: Taxilejeunea himalayensis was described by Herzog (1939: 86) from Darjeeling, India. Mizutani (in sched., 1967) annotated the type of T. himalayensis as Lejeunea mittenii Mizutani (1965: 121) , which is again a synonym of Lejeunea princeps (Stephani 1914: 568) Mizutani (1971: 354) View in CoL . The synonymy of T. himalayensis was never published, however, Thiers (1983), in addition, treated Lejeunea flexuosa Mitten (1861: 114) non Lindenb. under L. mittenii . [ Lejeunea flexuosa Lindenb. in Gottsche et al. (1845: 385) is a synonym of Cheilolejeunea rigidula ( Montagne 1840: 336) Schuster (1971: 102) View in CoL (see Gradstein & Hekking 1989)]. We confirm the synonymy of T. himalayensis Herzog under L. princeps View in CoL based on examination of herbarium material in NY (det M. Mizutani) and comparison with Herzog’s original description and illustration ( Herzog, 1939: p. 86 & fig. g–k). Since the synonymy of T. himalayensis was never published, we formerly propose it here.
