Senecio nevadensis Schultz Bipontinus ex Weddell (1856: 97) , nom. illeg. (Art. 53.1), replaced name, non Boissier & Reuter (1852: 60). Aetheolaena longepenicillata (Sandwith) Nordenstam (1978: 54) . Senecio pittieri Cuatrecasas (1950: 34) . Type:— VENEZUELA. Mérida, páramos de Timotes, 24 Jan 1928, H.F. Pittier 12712 (lectotype: PH-00023536 digital image!, designated here; isolectotypes: F-0076971F digital image!, G-00356116 digital image!, US-00123341 digital image!, VEN-30883 digital image!).

Nomenclatural notes: —In the protologue of S. nevadensis Schultz Bipontinus ex Weddell (1856: 97) , the author indicated two collections from the páramos of Mérida as original material (“Moritz, exsicc., n. 138 et 1383”). Among the located material belonging to Moritz 1383, we lectotypify the name S. nevadensis on the specimen P-01816796 because it allows a better study of both leaf and capitulum morphology. Moreover, we found a specimen collected by Moritz and numbered 1382 that perfectly matches the protologue information. In our opinion the number of the first collection in the protologue should be 1382 instead of “138”, and we attribute this omission to a typographic mistake. Thus, P-03749379 is considered here a syntype.
