Laphria hakiensis Matsumura, 1916: 296 View in CoL .

Large sized, dark reddish flies, 29 mm. The species has a very “shaggy” appearance with long trailing hair. The abdomen is for the most part shiny black. It is the largest of the South Korean Laphria View in CoL recorded in this study.

Redescription based on single male. Head: Face black integument, gold pollen and gold hair. Long, dense mystax yellow/gold/red. Parafacial hair long, gold. Short, sparse gold and black orbital hair. Proboscis apex angulated (similar to C. caucasicus , Fig. 28 View FIGURES 24 – 28 ). Short black and gold postocular hair. Ocellar tubercle with 3 short, yellow bristles. Antenna black with gold hair; relative lengths of segments: 3>1>2; postpedicel (segment 3) with apical pit. Thorax: Dorsal scutum black integument; lateral surfaces with bright red hair. Postpronotal hair red. Chaetotaxy with notopleural, supraalar and postalar surfaces covered in dense long, bright red bristles and hair. Sparse, fine dark red dorsocentral hair erect above appressed lighter red hair. Scutellar margin widely lipped, ringed with long red bristles. Lateral aspect of thorax black, light gold pollinose and long, dense, red hair. Anterior anepisternum with short red hair; posterior with dense long red hair and 2 strong black bristles. Katatergal bristles abundant, mostly red, some black. Legs: Entirely black with dense white, yellow and red hair. Hind femur swollen apically. Wings: Tinged brown surrounding veins. Abdomen: Tergites black with yellow hair. Tergites 1–4 with sparse, erect yellow hair; apical tergites with hair appressed. Lateral areas of tergites with long sparse yellow and black hair. Material examined. Kyongsangbuk­Do Province: 1ɗ: 28/VI/2002, Kimch’on­Shi. Kimch’on 400m., P Fauchas coll.

Field notes. Only one male specimen of L. hakiensis was collected in South Korea over a ten year period.
