Labidigaster setifacies Rondani, 1861 View in CoL
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861e: 88 (as “ setisfaces ”).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie et collibus agri parmensis [ Parmese hills and plains ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing left mid- and hind-legs), 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold, missing left wing, the fore- and left mid-legs) ( MZUF: Box 16): Labidigaster Mcq. / setifacies Rnd. / 820; 1 ♀, syntype (missing right fore-, mid- and hind legs) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Labidigaster Mcq. setifacies Rnd. 126 ♀ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 2, posiz. C-8 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Eulabidogaster setifacies ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 419, Pape et al. 1995: 31, Cerretti 2010: 523, O’Hara et al. 2020: 591).
REMARKS: Rondani (1861e: 88) described Labidigaster setifacies without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but from more than one specimen because he stated: “ non frequens … a Junio ad Augustum……. [not common … from June to August]”. We found three syntypes in this study. Rondani (1861e) named the species as “ setisfacies ” in his key and description (p. 88) but as “ setifacies ” in his index (p. 168). Acting as First Revisers, Bezzi & Stein (1907: 331) determined “ setifacies ” as the correct original spelling. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Labidigaster Macquart, 1844 , which is an “unjustified emendation of Labigastera Macquart, 1834 ( Evenhuis et al., 2016: 74).
