Lanthanomyia bouceki Heydon View in CoL
(Figs 17,18)
Lanthanomyia bouceki Heydon View in CoL , in Heydon and Hanson 2005: 161 –162.
Diagnosis. Individuals of L. bouceki are small (body length <3 mm) with the microsetae of the body white and appressed to the cuticle. The body color is variegated with greater or lesser areas of black coloration over a yellow base. The antenna has the scape cylindrical and short—only extending to slightly above the end of the scrobes, the first anellus as long as wide, and the flagellum clavate with the basal funicular segments slightly elongate, the middle segments quadrate and the terminal segments strongly transverse. The occipital foramen is well below the vertex. The wing membrane is clear. The gaster is about twice as long as wide and only slightly longer than the combined length of the head and mesosoma.
Remarks. There are several specimens, mostly from Región XII, that are almost all black ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16 – 21 ), but which otherwise are morphologically the same as typical L. bouceki ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 16 – 21 ). Females of the black form have the vertex and occiput mostly black and the mesosoma all black except for the dorsal part of the pronotum, the scutellum, and sometimes areas of the lateral lobes of the mesoscutum just anterior to the fore wing. Molecular studies may be needed to determine if these specimens represent a distinct species or are just a cold-adapted form of L. bouceki . Many females have an MPP sensillum on the 2nd antennal segment after the pedicel (A2). This is by far the most common species of Lanthanomyia .
