= Peltodon longipes A.St. View in CoL -Hil. ex Bentham (1833: 63). [non Hyptis longipes A.St. View in CoL -Hil. ex Bentham (1833: 88)]. Type :— BRAZIL. Rio Grande do Sul, “ad rivulos prope Santa (?São) Borja in Missionibus Uruguayensibus”, A. de St. - Hilaire 2656 (holotype P 720827 !; isotypes P 720828 !, P 720829 !).
Perennial herbs, up to 0.5 m high, conspicuous xilopodiferous root, hispid to strigose pubescence. Leaves sessile, ovate to elliptic blade, 4–10 × 2–7 cm, obtuse apex, round base, strigose pubescence on adaxial surface, hispid to strigose principally over nervation on abaxial surface, regularly crenate-serrate margin. Capitula 1.5–2.5 cm diam., many-flowered, solitary, peduncle 15–35 cm long. Bracteoles 6–10 × 6 mm, wide ovate, sometimes colored, pilose on external surface, glabrous on internal surface. Calyx 4–6 mm up to 10 mm in fruit, exterior sub-glabrous, interior glabrous; teeth 1.5 mm long, enlarged apex forming foliaceous orbicular appendage with pilose margins. Corolla violet color, 6–7 mm long. Nutlets ovoid, 1.2 mm long, brown, smooth.
Remarks: — At G there are two duplicates (sheets) from the Balansa 1008 collection, the type material of Peltodon comaroides , one of them is here designated as lectotype, following Arts. 8 and 9 of ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012; McNeill 2014).
Distribution and habitat: — Hyptis comaroides is found in southern Brazil, Paraguay and northeastern Argentina. Doubtful quote for the flora of Uruguay ( Rambo, 1962).
