Basionym: Trichomanes palmatifidum Müll.Berol. (1854: 732) View in CoL

Type:— INDONESIA. Java: Zöllinger 1722 (holotype: B-20 0105597b, image seen; isotypes: P-00624406, P-00624448, P-00624449, images seen)

Voucher specimens examined:— VIETNAM. Lam Dong Province, Lac Duong District, Da Chais Commune, Bidoup - Nui Ba National Park, from Hon Giao Station to Hon Giao peak, 1650–1950 m, 12.187° N, 108.714° E, 19 September 2018, T.- C. Hsu 10900 ( SGN! TAIF!) GoogleMaps ; same locality, 1700–1800 m, 18 February 2019, T.- C. Hsu 11306 ( SGN!, TAIF!) GoogleMaps .

Additional specimens examined:— MALAYSIA. Sabah, Mt. Trusmadi, 2000–2400 m, 10 April 2015, C.- W. Chen Wade4346 ( SGN!, TAIF-468154!). TAIWAN. Taitung County, Jinfong Township, from Mt. Peitawu to Mt. Payusen, 2 Jun 2014, T.- C.Hsu 7150 ( TAIF!).

Distribution:—Previously known from New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and recently disjunctively recorded from Taiwan ( Hsu et al. 2016). Our finding in Vietnam fills the gap between Malaysia and Taiwan.

Ecology:—In Vietnam, this species was found in cloudy broad-leaved forests. It grows as an epiphyte on moss-covered lower tree trunks near ridges.

Note:—This species belongs to Hymenophyllum subgenus Sphaerocionium (C.Presl) C.Chr. ( Ebihara et al. 2006) . In Vietnam, it is morphologically similar to H. digitatum (Sw.) Fosberg (1980: 1) and H. nitidulum (Bosch) Ebihara & K.Iwats. (2004: 941) but can be distinguished from them by having stellate hairs on lamina margin.
