69 Hierophis viridiflavus View in CoL - Mezzasalma et al. (2015) raised H. carbonarius to the species rank. Speybroeck et al. (2020) recommend maintaining Hierophis viridiflavus carbonarius as a subspecies for the time being, since the amount of divergence in mtDNA between H. v. carbonarius and H. v. viridiflavus is much lower than between the closely related H. gemonensis and H. viridiflavus (Rato et al., 2009) .
