Etymology. The name iS frOm Greek and referS tO the SmalleSt Size Of the dOrSal bar cOmpared tO Other cOngenerS (micro = Small + cleithrum = bar).
Description. BaSed On 25 SpecimenS: 24 mOunted in HOyer’S medium and 1 Stained With GOmOri’S trichrOme. BOdy 316–590 (415; n=20) lOng, greateSt Width 57–217 (88; n=20), uSually near mid-length. AcceSSOry granuleS eXtending frOm leVel Of gOnadS tO cephalic lObeS. Male cOpulatOry cOmpleX cOmpriSing nOn-articulated cirruS and acceSSOry piece. CirruS delicate, tOtal curVed length 45–54 (49; n=25), Straight in anteriOr pOrtiOn, fOrming 1½ cOunterclOckWiSe Spiral ringS neXt tO rOunded baSe. AcceSSOry piece 32–46 (40; n=25) lOng, cOmpOSed Of 2 SubunitS OVerlapping: One Small, leSS SclerOtized and irregularly Shaped, and anOther lOng, rObuSt, cOnSpicuOuS, StrOngly SclerOtized, reSembling ‘hammer and Sickle’ in Shape ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 E). Vaginal canal ShOrt and SclerOtized, 13–16 (14; n=20) lOng, 13–17 (15; n=20) curVed length, With thickened marginS. EggS Operculate, 45–106 (83; n=3) lOng, 18–59 (40; n=3) Wide, ShOrt pOlar filament On adOpercular end. HaptOr 38–67 (46; n=20) lOng, 55–109 (80; n=20) Wide, SubtrapezOidal. Ventral anchOrS 16–17 (17; n=25) lOng, length tO nOtch 21–25 (23; n=25), flattened baSe 10– 12 (11; n=25) Wide, Shaft elOngate mOderately, pOint 16–18 (17; n=25) lOng With recurVed tip, pOintS eXtending pOSterOVentrally frOm haptOr; anchOr filament dOuble, Well-deVelOped; SclerOtized patch aSSOciated With baSe Of Ventral anchOr abSent. DOrSal anchOrS 15–18 (17; n=25) lOng, length tO nOtch 13–17 (15; n=25), elOngate Superficial rOOt 5–7 (6; n=25) lOng, incOnSpicuOuS deep rOOt 1–2 (2; n=25) lOng, eVenly curVed ShOrt Shaft, Straight pOint 8–9 (8; n=25) lOng, anchOr filament dOuble, mOderately deVelOped. SeVen pairS Of Similar hOOkS, 11–13 (12; n=25) lOng, FH lOOp abOut ¾ Of Shank length.
Remarks. Heteropriapulus microcleithrus n. sp. can be differentiated frOm itS cOngenerS by preSenting the SmalleSt dOrSal bar (Other SpecieS haVe dOrSal bar lOnger than 17 µm), and acceSSOry piece cOmpOSed Of tWO OVerlapping SubunitS: One Subunit Small and leSS SclerOtized, and anOther cOnSiderably lOnger, rObuSt, StrOngly SclerOtized, and preSenting a unique Shape reSembling the Shape Of ‘hammer and Sickle’ ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 E). Heteropriapulus anchoradiatus n. sp. and H. falxus n. sp. alSO pOSSeSS an acceSSOry piece cOmpOSed Of tWO SubunitS, but theSe are bOth StrOngly SclerOtized and differ in Shape frOm that Of the neW SpecieS (COmpare FigS. 4 View FIGURE 4 D, 6D and 7E). Heteropriapulus microcleithrus n. sp. dOeS nOt preSent a SclerOtized patch aSSOciated With the Ventral bar, like H. simplex and H. anchoradiatus n. sp.
