Heterobarcinus schaeferi n. sp.
( Figs. 7, 7a; photo 5)
Material examined: Holotype ♀ glued on card and labelled: “ Cina – Fukien / Kuatung 20 VII 1946 / leg. Tschung-Sen ”//” Holotype ♀ Heterobarcinus / schaeferi n. sp. / des. E.Heiss 2009” ( CEHI); paratype ♀ with data of holotype, however collected 1 VI 1946 ( CEHI).
Diagnosis: Differs from all other species of this genus by the nearly straight subparallel lateral margin of pronotum and the shape of its anterolateral lobe (figs. 7, 7a).
Description: Macropterous female. General colouration of body and appendages dark brown; terminal segments VII–X black; the surface with short yellowish curled pilosity which is distinctly shorter on antennal segments II–IV and tibiae.
Head: Longer than width across eyes (22/18) genae produced over clypeus with acute apex, cleft anteriorly, not reaching ½ of antennal segment I; antenniferous tubercles diverging anteriorly, apex acute; antennae 2.75 x as long as width of head (29.5/18), segment I thickest and twice the diameter of the proceeding ones, II shorter than IV, III longest, IV fusiform with pilose apex; length of antennal segments I/II/ III/IV = 15/10/18/6.5; postocular tubercles spine-like directed laterally; rostrum arising from a slit like atrium, as long as head.
Pronotum: More than twice as wide as long at middle (45/20), lateral margins slightly diverging and sinuate anteriorly; anterolateral lobe projecting, apex rounded; collar thin ring like; disk of anterior lobe with two ovate smooth callosities, posterior lobe raised, posterior margin sinuate at middle.
Scutellum: Triangular, wider than long (24/18); lateral margins sinuate and carinate, disk with a median carina which enlarges anteriorly into two prominent rounded lobes overlapping the pronotum; posterior margin sinuate at middle.
Abdomen: Lateral margins rounded, pe angles of deltg II–V only slightly produced, that ot deltg VI rectangular, VII with a triangular posteriorly projecting lobe on inner half; deltg II–VI wide, subrectangular with large round markings of apodemal impressions, the midlateral ones are ovate and exposed on mediotergites (mtg) III–VI; tergite VIII triangularly produced posteriorly, as long a stergite VII, tergite IX triangular, tergite X bifurcate projecting posteriorly nearly reaching apex of tergite VIII (fig. 7); spiracles III– VI ventral, far from lateral margin, VII closer to margin, VIII lateral and visible from above.
Hemelytra: Corium diverging and carinate anterolaterally, slightly longer than scutellum; membrane covering the tergal disk with irregular anastomosed veins.
Legs: Femora and tibiae straight and cylindrical, apex of femora roundedly thickened and clavate; claws with setiform pseudopulvilli.
Measurements: Holotype ♀: Length 12.5 mm; head l/w 22/18; pronotum w/l 45/20; scutellum w/l 24/18; length antennae I/II/III/IV = 15/10/18/6.5; ration l antennae / w head 2.75; w abdomen across tergite IV 65, VI 58, VII 32.
Paratype ♀: Length 12.0 mm; head l/w 21/16.5; pronotum w/l 40/18; scutellum w/l 24/17; length antennae I/II/III/IV = 14/9/17/6.5; ration l antennae / w head 2.81; w abdomen across tergite IV 62, VI 56, VII 30.
Etymology: It is a pleasure to dedicate this species to my long time friend and colleague Prof. Carl W.Schaefer for his continuous advice and assistance improving linguistically my manuscripts.
