Caccinia monandra (Bunge) I.M. Johnston (1924: 70) View in CoL .

Type:— IRAN. Persia centralis: in montibus ad Meibud et Aghda inter Yazd et Isfahan, May 1859, Bunge s.n. (lectotype P barcode P 03877442! designated here, isolectotypes GH barcode GH 00589835!, LE!, P barcodes P 03877443! and P 03877445!).

Five duplicates of the type of H. monandra were found at GH, LE and P. According to McNeill (2014), the existence of a holotype cannot be considered prior to 1990 unless one particular herbarium was indicated in the protologue (and only one specimen of the gathering was deposited there) or if it was made clear that only a single specimen of the gathering existed. Because there were more than one specimen for this species, housed in more than one institution, so they are duplicates. Based on Art. 40 Note 1 ( McNeill et al. 2012) these must all be treated as syntypes. The sheet at P (barcode P 03877442) is here selected as the lectotype because it contains leaves, flowers, and inflorescences that are better developed than the other sheets, and the characters of the specimen agree closely with the protologue.

Distribution and habitat:—According to Riedl (1967), Heliocarya monandra is only found in Isfahan and Yazd provinces in central Iran. During our visits and searching in different herbaria, we noticed that there is one specimen belonging to H. monandra collected by Bunge from Kerman Province (MPU) that was ignored in Flora Iranica ( Riedl 1967). The known distribution range can therefore be expanded to the provinces Isfahan, Yazd, and Kerman in Central and Eastern Iran ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Heliocarya monandra grows on rocky slopes, limestone cliffs, gravel slopes, and high-montane zone, at elevations of 1550–2000 m ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).

Additional specimens examined:— IRAN. Prov. Isfahan: Kuh-e Sofeh , 2000 m, 13 May 2016, few individuals, Negaresh & Shahin 164 (herb. Negaresh, FUMH) ; Kuh-e Sofeh, 2000 m, Wendelbo 920 ( TARI) ; 10 km of S Isfahan, Pinart , 1550–1800 m, Norouzi & Feizi 6539 ( TARI) ; Verdenan s.n. ( P barcode P03877444 ). Prov. Kerman: Kerman, April 1859, Bunge s.n. ( MPU) .
