Key to the genera of Scutigerellidae View in CoL using SEM
A new determination key to the genera of the family Scutigerellidae is proposed here, which is mainly intended for observations using SEM. Accordingly, features which are easily observed at a first glance are considered first. Before using this key it is important to take it into account the aforementioned exceptions with some Hanseniella species above mentioned, such as H. imerina , H. remy , H. modesta and H. incisa .
1. Cuticle of the tergites pubescent ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B, C)............................................................................................................... 2
- Cuticle of the tergites glabrous ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 A, 5) ................................................................................................................. 5
2. Anterior tergites convex porsteriorly, with antero-lateral macrochaetae prominent, usually long. Head rounded, as broad as long or broader than long. Central rod posteriorly ends in a knob in the middle of the head ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 B) ........ 3
- Anterior tergites not convex posteriorly; with posterior margins straight, emarginated or bilobed, and with antero- lateral macrochaetae not very prominent. Head a bit longer than broad ...................................................................... 4
3. Anterior tergites with two postero-lateral rounded lobes separated by a median indentation and posterior margins
crenate. Head somewhat rounded ................................................................................................... Scopoliella Scheller - Anterior tergites straight, emarginated or bilobed, without crenate posterior margins. Head heart-shaped ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 C)... ..........................................................................................................................................................
