Material examined. Lectotype of Hymenicus cookii Filhol, 1885 , herein designated, New Zealand, Détroit de Cook (Cook Strait), MNHN IU- 2014 -7143 (B32572), (female, 6.1 mm).
Paralectotype. Same locality, MNHN IU- 2000 - 1100 (B 1100) (female, 5.3 mm, dry).
Other material. New Zealand, Wellington, NMV J7374 (10 males and females).
Distribution. Throughout New Zealand except its subantarctic islands ( Melrose 1975).
Remarks. Types of this New Zealand endemic were found at MNHN and a lectotype is selected herein.
