ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1869c: 189.
TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but Delpino (1869: 232) indicated Florence ( Italy) as the collecting locality .
TYPE MATERIAL: 4 ♂♂, 12 ♀♀, 4 specimens, syntypes (sex not determinable, in poor condition) ( MZUF: Box 38): Gymnopa Fall. / opaca Rnd. / 2047; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: 38): Gymnopa Fall. / opaca Rnd. / 2047 / [illegible words] Apis mellifera ; 1 specimen, syntype (only an empty pin with the label remains) ( MZUB: Box 340): 29 16 / Gymnopa opaca Rond. , ex agro parmensi / opaca Rndn. / Parma; 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUB: Box 340): 29 17 / Gymnopa opaca Rond. , ex agro parmensi / Ligl? [illegible word]; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, missing abdomen) ( MZUB: Box 340): 29 18 / Gymnopa opaca Rond. , ex agro parmensi.
CURRENT STATUS: Cogan (1984) and Mathis & Zatwarnicki (1995) did not list it; available name ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 212).
REMARKS: Rondani (1869c: 189) described Gymnopa opaca , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from F. Delpino. Twenty-four syntypes were found in this study.
