Type locality: Guano, Islands of Elide, on coast of Lower California .
References: Hustedt 1931 –1959, p. 10, fig. 544; Witkowski et al. 2000, p. 56, p. 14, figs 1–3; Siqueiros-Beltrones & Argumedo-Hernández 2014, figs 4, 6, 8.
Morphometrics: Valves 188–198 (90–400) μm long, 27 (20–37) μm wide, transapical striae 4 (5–7) in 10 μm.
Remarks: Gephyria media is distributed in coast of warmer oceans, and, in Europe, only in the Mediterranean ( Hustedt 1931 –1959, Witkowski et al. 2000). This taxon has been reported from the East China Sea of China ( Liu 2008), as an epiphyte on a red seaweed and as benthic diatoms along the western coast of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico, respectively ( Siqueiros-Beltrones & Argumedo-Hernández 2014, López-Fuerte et al. 2015), and from the Red Sea of Egypt ( Gerasimiuk & Kovtun 2014). It is mainly distributed in subtropical regions. In South Korea, this species was reported previously, from the southeastern coast of the East Sea, Gijang ( Choi & Noh 1987), and recently occurring very rare in The Seogwipo coast in Jeju Island.
