Geochus pictulus Broun 1921: 568 . Type locality: Huia , near Auckland.

Type Depository. BMNH :LT,3 PLT; NZAC :2 PLT.

Distribution. New Zealand (AK).

Remarks. Broun did not indicate the number of specimens on which he based this species. We located five specimens in the Broun collection (BMNH), one labeled as a variant we considered not to be part of the syntype series. There were 17 specimens in the NZAC from the same locality; two matched the collection date of 10 April 1915 stated in Broun’s original description and are considered syntypical. The remainder were collected on 3 April 1915 and were not considered syntypical. Among the material, one we designate as the lectotype to stabilize the epithet, with the other five becoming paralectotypes.

We place this species into a species group with G. politus .
