8a. Flemingia lineata var. glutinosa Prain (1897: 438) View in CoL . Flemingia glutinosa (Prain) Y.T.Wei & S.K.Lee (1985: 169) . Lectotype (designated by Thuan 1979):— MYANMAR. S. Shan States: Taungyi, King’s collector s.n. (K)

Flemingia lineata var. hirtella Gagnep. (1916: 299) View in CoL . Lectotype (designated here):— LAOS. Mekong, Kemmarath, C.Thorel 2237 (P-

02920929!) ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 ).

Shrub or subshrub, ca. 2 m tall. Branchlets and inflorescence axis closely beset with sticky glandular hairs. Leaflets narrowly lanceolate, thinner, 6–14 cm long, apex acuminate, base acute. Pods obovoid, 1.2–1.8 cm long, densely glutinous hairy.

Iconography citation: — Nguyen (1979: 145): plate 23, figures 2–3; Wei (1995: 320): plate 76, figures 3–9; Pham (1999: 969), figure 3882.

Ecology and phenology: — Flemingia lineata var. glutinosa grows in shaded bamboo/deciduous forest, open margins of meadow land, secondary forest at 200– 800 m. Flowering from January to April, and fruiting from May to June.

Distribution: — Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and China.

Notes: — Prain (1897) originally described a new variety, namely Flemingia lineata var. glutinosa which has densely sticky glandular hairs on branches and inflorescence axis, narrowly lanceolate leaf blade with acuminate apex, and obovoid pods, 1.2–1.8 cm long, densely glutinous hairy. This treatment was adopted by Mukerjee (1953), Nguyen (1979), Pham (1999). However, in the treaments of Flemingia for the flora of China, Wei & Lee (1985) separated it as a distinct species, Flemingia glutinosa . Recently, Sa & Gilbert (2010) synonymized it under Flemingia lineata . Based on examination of recent collections, we here agree with Prain’s treatment.

In Floré Genérale de Indo-Chine, Gagnepain (1916) proposed another new variety, namely Flemingia lineata var. hirtella based on three gatherings: C.Thorel 2237, C.J.Spire 1477 and C.J.Spire 825, which were collected from Laos. However, Gagnepain did not specify, which of the three specimens should be regarded as the type. Later, Nguyen (1979) in his treatment of Flemingia in Flore du Cambodge, Laos, and Vietnam, synonymized Flemingia lineata var. hirtella under Flemingia lineata var. glutinosa , but also did not make lectotypification for Flemingia lineata var. hirtella . While looking for the type of Flemingia ferruginea var. hirtella , we traced all these above specimens being deposied at P. of which, the specimen C.Thorel 2237 (P-02920929) matches very well with the protologue, and selected here as the lectotype for Flemingia lineata var. hirtella ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 ). The specimens of C.J.Spire 1477 (P-00709072) and C.J.Spire 829 (P-00709070) remain syntypes.
