Type:— ECUADOR. Carchi: Reserva Awa, 16–30 November 1990, Rubio et al. 1068 (holotype: QCNE; isotype: BG!) .
Terrestrial trees, 3–25 m tall. Leaf blade 15–21 cm long, 5.5–7.0 cm wide, elliptic, narrowly elliptic, rarely obovate, base cuneate, apex acuminate to caudate, adaxial face glabrous, abaxial face hispid; secondary veins 20–26 pairs; petiole 1.5–2.0 cm long, hispid, periderm flaking off; stipules caducous, 1.3–2.0 cm, hispid. Syconia solitary; peduncle 3.0–5.0 mm long, hispid; lateral bracts absent; receptacle 0.9–1.1 cm in diam. when dry, hispid, apex rounded ( Fig. 7C, D View FIGURE 7 ).
Distribution and habitat in Colombia: — Boyaca, Chocó, and Valle del Cauca, in premontane to montane rainforests between 250–1000 m elevation ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).
