ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 118 (key), 134 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in collibus et montuosis ditionis parmensis [ Parmese hills and mountains ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold, partially eaten by dermestids, missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box 13): Exorista Mgn / crassiseta Rnd. / 633; 1 ♀, syntype (covered with mold, partially eaten by dermestids, missing right fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box E): Exorista crassiseta R., 226, ♀, Parma / 393 226; 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, missing left mid-leg) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Exorista crassiseta R. 383 Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 5, posiz. B-4 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Carcelia iliaca (Ratzeburg, 1840) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 214) .
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 134) described Exorista crassiseta from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ foeminas tantum raro legi [I collected females only rarely]”, thus excluding the two males numbered “633”. We found three syntypes in this study: two females in the MZUF and one specimen (sex not determinable) in the MSNC .
