scientific name

Eurya carvinervis Vesque f. laevis Hung T. Chang (1954: 49)
status

1. Eurya carvinervis Vesque f. laevis Hung T. Chang (1954: 49) .

Type:— CHINA. Guangxi: Shangsi, Shiwanda Shan, Fenghuang Xiang, Honglaiding, 1000 m, on the peak, in dense and dry bamboo forest, shrubs, erect, 1 m high, flowers pale white, 18 Feb. 1944, Shao-Qing Chen 4590 (lectotype IBSC-0003612!, here designated). Remaining syntype:— CHINA. Guangxi: Shangsi, Shiwanda Shan, Fenghuang Xiang, Honglaiding, 1000 m, in valley, in sparse forest, 18 Feb. 1944, Shao-Qing Chen 4587 ( IBSC herb. #163566!).

Two gatherings, Shao-Qing Chen 4587 and 4590, were designated as male and female “type” in Chinese, respectively, in the protologue ( Chang 1954). There exists only one sheet for each gathering, with both sheets bearing the handwritten “var. nov.” by the author, together with the printed “ TYPE ”. The condition of Shao-Qing Chen 4590 is better than that of Shao-Qing Chen 4587, and the former has male flowers and immature fruits, while the latter has only female flowers. So we designate the former as the lectotype of the name. The validating description and diagnosis were published by Chang (1954: 49). This form was originally described from Guangxi. It was treated as a synonym of Eurya carvinervis Vesque (1895: 158) by Ming & Bartholomew (2007).
