= Eupatorium kleinioides var. hecatanthum Baker (1876: 343) . Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. Accurate location not indicated, no date, F. Sellow 3652 ( K 000486862 [digital image!])

Baker (1876) cited an unnumbered collection of Sellow as the only examined material of E. kleinioides var. hecatanthum , and the specimen (labeled as Sellow 3652) was deposited in B and most likely lost during the fire of 1943 (there is a negative of the sheet in F). There is a specimen in K also labeled as Sellow 3652 and bearing another label with the name P. hecatantha Schultz-Bipontinus , a herbarium name cited in the protologue of E. kleinioides var. hecatanthum as an invalidly published synonym of this variety. It is unclear if this specimen is an isotype or a syntype, but it seems to be part of the original material of E. kleinioides var. hecatanthum . Thus, we designate this specimen as a lectotype for this varietal name.
