Eugenia yautepecana has a wide distribution within the Mexican territory, from 20 to 2,460 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) exceeds the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B, as well as the area of occupancy (AOO) would likely exceed the thresholds of any threatened category when the remaining habitat available is taken in account. There are up to six known locations, based on six collections, three in the state of Veracruz, and one in each of the following states: Morelos, Estado de Mexico, and Tabasco. The biome is the Humid Tropical Forest and the Humid Montane Forest. The habitat is fragmented, and the records are spread across different states; however, from some localities the habitat is in a better state of conservation and with low ecological degradation (EDI, see CONABIO 2018). For example, this species occurs within the flora and fauna protection area “Biological Corridor Chichinautzin” (Morelos) and also in the proximity to the “Natural Resources Protection Area Cuencas de los ríos Valle de Bravo, Malacatepec, Tilostoc y Temascaltepec” (State of Mexico). In the states of Veracruz and Tabasco, the habitat is impacted by economic activities ( CONABIO 2018, DOF 2005, CONNAP 2013) from which is inferred a continuing decline of habitat quality. Eugenia yautepecana is classified as Least Concern (LC), taking in account the remaining area of habitat available, its broad altitudinal range and low habitat specificity, despite the restricted number of locations and continuing decline of habitat in some localities. Its assessment as a threatened species based on AOO will be pending on further field surveys to confirm its current distribution, population size, local threats, and habitat trend.
