55. Eugenia principium McVaugh, Fieldiana, Bot. View in CoL 29: 451 (1963)

EOO: 821,902.851 km ². AOO: 112 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern.

Eugenia principium is distributed from the state of Colima, Mexico to Panama ( Barrie 2020, WCSP 2020). Eugenia principium has 36 collection records from the Humid Tropical Forest and Humid Montane Forests along the Pacific slope, located from southern Mexico to Panama, from 0 to 1,000 m elev. The habitat has a high rate of ecological degradation due to human activities, such as the development of tourism projects and the use of soil for agricultural production ( CONABIO 2018). However, the estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) and potentially its area of occupancy (AOO) based on the habitat available, exceed the thresholds for a threatened category under the criterion B. Eugenia principium was also recently assessed as Least Concern (LC) ( Condit 2019).

Specimens examined:— MEXICO. Colima: McVaugh 15581 (MEXU!); Costa Rica: Estrada & Rodríguez 236 (INB); Guatemala: Standley 87798 (F); Nicaragua: Moreno 19578 (MO); Panama: Croat 5457 (MO).
