6. Eugenia klaineana (Pierre) Engler in Engler & Brehmer (1917: 339). Basionym:

Heterotypic synonym:— Eugenia soyauxii Engler (1899: 291) . Lectotype (designated here):— GABON. In ditione Munda, Sibange Farm, 2August 1880 (fl.), H.Soyaux 109 (P! [P05258396]; isolectotype K! Distribution:—In Congo (Brazzaville) only collected from Niari, Pool and Kouilou departments. The species is also distributed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon and Angola ( Cabinda).

Habitat and ecology:—Evergreen and secondary forests; elevation 10 ‒ 103 m.

Notes:—The flowers are notably axillary, sessile and pink. Two specimens, Klaine 1224 and 1281, were cited in the protologue of Chloromyrtus klaineana . Amhoff (1958) wrote ‘Klaine 128 and 1224, type of Chloromyrtus klaineana’ but we assume she was referring to both syntypes and just omitted the 1 in error for the number for the first specimen. We choose Klaine 1224 as lectotype, because it has good quality flowering material, additional notes attached to the sheet and because Klaine 1281 consists of at least three different gatherings. Three specimens were cited in the protologue of Eugenia soyauxii , one of which (Kalbreyer 157) is now the type of a different species, Eugenia kalbreyeri Engler & Brehmer (1917: 337) . We choose to base it on Soyaux 109 because of the good quality reproductive material, and the link with the epithet.
