Lectotype (designated here):— DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO. Mayumbe , Chinganga, 29 August 1895 (fl.), A. Dewèvre 322 (BR! [ BR0000008989994 ; isolectotype BR0000008990327 ]). Remaining syntype:— DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO. Mayumbe, Chinganga, 23 August 1895 (fl.), A. Dewèvre 294 (BR! [ BR0000008990440 , BR0000008990112 ]).

Distribution:—In Congo (Brazzaville) only collected from Brazzaville, Cuvette and Kouilou departments. The species also occurs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola.

Habitat and ecology:—Riverine forests; elevation unknown.

Notes:—The sessile flowers with densely hairy bracts are distinguishing characters for the species. Of the two specimens cited in the protologue we choose Dewèvre 322 for typification because of its better preserved flowering material.
