19. Eugenia citroides Lundell, Contr. Univ. View in CoL Michigan Herb. 7: 33 (1942)
EOO: 4,738.708 km ². AOO: 44 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Vulnerable.
Eugenia citroides occurs in the state of Chiapas, Mexico (with 5 collection records), in addition to Guatemala and Honduras ( Barrie 2020, WCSP 2020). The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) fall into the thresholds of the Endangered category under the criterion B. Currently, there are 18 known records in areas of Humid Tropical Forest and the Humid Montane Forest, representing up to 7 known locations, considering occurrences within the protected area are outside or close to urban or farming areas. There is an inferred continuing decline in habitat quality from human activities especially on the eastern, which specimens are located outside the protected area. The habitat is mainly in a good state of conservation, considering that part of its records is from the very important protected area of Mexico, “Reserva de la Biosfera El Triunfo” (Rzedowski 1994, Rzedowski 1978, Ochoa-Gaona 1996, Miranda 1952, Breedlove 1981, Matuda 1950, Martínez-Meléndez et al. 2008, INE-SEMARNAP 1999b). The region between both countries where E. citroides occurs, which is the area of influx of Volcan de Tacana and the Volcan de Tajomulco, due to the physiographic characteristics of high altitude above 2,000 m elev., is very rich in biodiversity and endemism. Eugenia citroides is classified as Vulnerable (VU), as it meets the criteria B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii).
Specimens examined:— MEXICO. Chiapas: Breedlove 31783 (MEXU!). Guatemala: Williams et al. 23045 (F).
