EOO: 16,297.727 km ². AOO: 28 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Vulnerable.
Eugenia calycorectoides is found only in Mexico in the states of San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, and Morelos, and the species is known only for 7 records, in two types of biomes, being the Humid Tropical Forest and the Humid Montane Forest. The species can be found from 300 to 1,300 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) falls within the threshold of Vulnerable category under criterion B, whilst the estimated area of occupancy (AOO) falls within the thresholds of the Endangered category. Eugenia calycorectoides is known to occur within the biological protection area “Parque Nacional Cañón de Rio Blanco”, located in Veracruz ( DOF 1938). Therefore, there are only between 5 to 6 known locations and all of them have ongoing threats. A continuing decline of its habitat is inferred due to human activities (crop production, recurrent timber extraction in the region, urban development; CONABIO 2018). Considering that still there are remaining habitat available and scarce collection efforts within its entire range, a precautionary approach is taken here to classify Eugenia calycorectoides as Vulnerable (VU) as it meets the criteria B1ab (iii)+B2ab(iii).
