EOO: 1,035,176.908 km ². AOO: 120 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Least Concern.
Eugenia axillaris has a wide distribution in the American continent, occurring from Florida ( United States) to Central America, in addition to the Antilles ( WCSP 2020). Just 30 records are known for Mexico, where the species is distributed in the Dry and Humid Tropical Forests close to the coast and in the Federal Biosphere Reserves as the “Reserva de la Biosfera de Calakmul”, “Reserva de la Biosfera Montes Azules”, “Reserva de la Biosfera Selva El Ocote” and “Reserva de la Biosfera Sian Ka´an” from sea level to 1,100 m elev. (INE-SEMARNAP 1999a, INESEMARNAP 2000a, CONANP 2001, CONANP 2014). The habitat has a high rate of environmental degradation due to direct anthropogenic impacts on coastal ecosystems ( CONABIO 2018). According to recent assessment by BGCI & IUCN (2019b), Eugenia axillaris is currently in the Least Concern (LC) category.
