1.4. Eugenia angustissima O.Berg (1859: 569) View in CoL .

= Aulomyrcia stenophylla O. Berg (1861: 654) , syn. nov. Type:— PARAGUAY. Unknown date, Rengger s.n. (holotype P [P00161080] [image!]).

The protologue of Aulomyrcia stenophylla compares it to Myrcia linearifolia Cambessèdes (1832 View in CoL –1833: 334) (M. sect. Myrcia View in CoL ), M. pinifolia Cambessèdes (1832 View in CoL –1833: 333) (M. sect. Aulomyrcia ) and M. laricina View in CoL (O. Berg 1857 –1859: 61) Burret ex Luetzelburg (1906: 201) (M. sect. Aguava), certainly due to the narrow leaves that all these species possess. Also, they share a low growing habit (except by M. laricina View in CoL , which can be arborescent; Lima 2017) and woody rootstock, features that are not uncommon in Myrtaceae View in CoL from dry or seasonal areas such as the Paraguayan vegetation. However, these features are also found in species of other genera, as is the case of Eugenia angustissima O. Berg (1857 View in CoL –1859: 569), which is relatively common in seasonally dry vegetation. The type collection of A. stenophylla shows many features in common with E. angustissima View in CoL , for instance the clustered and narrow leaves, solitary flowers and similar bracteoles. For this reason, A. stenophylla is considered a synonym of E. angustissima View in CoL .

The cited specimen is considered the holotype as it is the only one annotated as Aulomyrcia stenophylla by Berg.
