Range: — Cuba; mountains from southern Mexico to Honduras; Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, SC).

Ecology: —Local and uncommon; terrestrial along forest edges, on ridges, and in secondary forests; 2000–2800 m.

Notes: —Rhizomes compact to short-creeping; blades 3–22 cm wide, 3-pinnate to 3-pinnate-pinnatifid; pinnules adaxially with scattered, appressed hairs on the veins and the blade tissue. This is a more delicate species than E. novogranatensis , with more slender axes, and smaller leaf segments. Hybridizes with E. flexuosus (A. Tryon 1970) .
