Eriocaulon margaretae Fyson (1921: 316)

Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Karnataka, Belgaum, Bidi, Rudrasiri , September 1911, Sedgwick 2979, ( BLAT 89271 [Digital image!]), Fig. 2 .

Notes:—The species was described by Fyson based on two gatherings, one collected by him (Fyson 3839) and the other collected by Sedgwick (Sedgwick 2979). However, he did not specify any type sheet. Lately, Ansari & Balakrishnan (2009) specified the type of this species as ‘Sedgwick 2979 (deposited at CAL)’ without mentioning it as a lectotype or using the phrase ‘designated here’ as suggested by the ICN (Arts. 7.11 and 9.23, Turland et al. 2018).

We could not locate the specimen collected by Fyson (3839) deposited at PCM (Presidency College, Chennai, pers. comm.). However, we could find two sheets of the other gathering, one deposited at CAL (Central National Herbarium, Kolkata) and the other deposited at BLAT (Blatter herbarium, Mumbai). The specimen at CAL (CAL0000001654) has a label of Sedgwick 2979. However, it also has a label mentioning “legit P. F. Fyson (ex Herb. Pres. Coll. Madras)” which may indicate there can be two specimens glued to the same sheet. So, the specimen deposited at BLAT (89271), which is one of the original gatherings cited by Fyson, is designated here as a lectotype ( Fig. 2 ).
