Notes:— Hooker (1893) described Eriocaulon duthiei based on a single gathering: “Central Provinces; Bhimkund, in the Khandma, district, Duthie ”. The author did not mention any specific sheet as the type nor the herbarium in which the original material is conserved. Ansari & Balakrishnan (2009) cited as type: “Bhimkhund, Khandwa Dist., Central Province, 13.12.1888, J. F. Duthie 8436 ( DD, CAL)”. The indication of the specimens kept in DD and CAL by Ansari & Balakrishnan (2009), is not acceptable as effective lectotypication (see Arts. 7.10 and 9.23 of the ICN) .
We traced five specimens collected by J.F. Duthie kept in DD, K, CAL, and LL (acronyms according to Thiers 2016) that fits the protologue and can be considered as original material (Art. 9.3 of the ICN, McNeill et al. 2012). Among them, the best complete specimen having drawing of a floral dissection on the herbarium sheet made by Hooker housed at K (barcode K000098670) is designated here as the lectotype.
