Priestfish or Skilfish. To 188 cm (74 in) TL ( Zolotov et al. 2014). Sagami Bay, Pacific coast of central Honshu, Japan ( Mecklenburg 2003), to south of Commander–Aleutian chain, and southern Gulf of Alaska (Mecklenburg et al. 2002), to Monterey Bay, central California ( Eschmeyer and Herald 1983). Depth: juveniles and young adults to about 110 cm (43 in) TL collected near surface, sometimes close to shore (Mecklenburg et al. 2002); adults close to bottom; depth: 200–1,047 m (656–3,438 ft), usually far from shore (min.: Mecklenburg et al. 2002; max.: Zolotov et al. 2014).
